The thing about technology is that it makes our lives easier. Fortunately that extends to making money online and the same goes for passive income.

Maybe you’re more the creative type, or you’re someone who prefers a more hands-off approach.

Either way, my blog post has some solid ideas for you to make passive income online (if that's what you're interested in)!

But before we get into the how, let’s talk about the what.

What Exactly Is Passive Income?

Passive income is money you earn with minimal ongoing effort after the initial setup. It’s the digital-age version of "letting your money work for you." But it’s not without effort.

Picture it like you're a gardener planting a garden. You put in the time to sow and nurture, but once it starts blooming, you can enjoy the fruits with less hands-on care.

You can still do this even if you’re not the best gardener (I certainly am not)!

Passive income is more than making easy money overnight. You need to first set up the right systems (at least I think so) that will generate ongoing revenue. It’s accessible, but it does require some upfront hustle and, most importantly, patience.

And with that, let’s move on to some proven ways that you can earn passive income online.

1. Create and Sell an Online Course

If you’re good at something, like cooking, coding, or formatting the perfect resume, turn that know-how into a course. Platforms like Udemy or Teachable make it easy to reach a global audience.

Sure, there’s upfront work that you’ll need to do, but once it’s live, your course can sell over and over again with little maintenance.

2. Start a Money-Making Blog

Blogging might sound old-school, but it’s still a great way to earn online. From ad revenue to affiliate marketing, a blog with consistent traffic can become a cash cow. Write about what you love, grow your audience, and let the money flow in while you sleep.

3. Invest in Dividend Stocks

Ok, so this one’s not as "creative," but it’s a classic for a reason. Dividend-paying stocks let you earn a slice of company profits just for holding their shares. Reinvest your dividends, and you’ll see your income compound over time.

4. Sell Stock Photos

If you have photography skills, you can turn your camera roll into cash. Sites like Shutterstock or Adobe Stock let you upload your photos and earn royalties every time someone downloads them. It’s a perfect way to let your creativity pay off while you’re out doing other things.

Wait, where are my manners? Let me introduce myself...

Hey there, I'm Christine, the gal behind Creative Wealth Pathways! I used to wonder if any of this online income stuff works for regular people. It does! So I created this blog to hand you the tips I learned the hard way.

5. Launch a Social Media Channel

Whether you love dancing, baking, or sharing your hobbies, TikTok and YouTube can be a source of passive income. Once you build an audience, you can monetize your channel through ads, memberships, and even merchandise.

It will take time to gain traction, but once your videos take off, they’ll keep working for you long after you hit “upload.”

6. Write an E-Book

Always dreamed of being an author? Now’s your chance. Write a book on something you’re passionate about, publish it on Amazon Kindle, and earn royalties with each sale. E-books require a little hustle to market, but once they’re out there, they can become a long-term income stream.

7. Try Real Estate Crowdfunding

Not ready to buy property? Real estate crowdfunding lets you invest in properties with a small initial amount. Platforms like Fundrise let you pool resources with other investors and earn rental income or a share of property appreciation without having to play landlord.

8. License Your Music

If you’re musically gifted, licensing your music is a fantastic way to earn passive income while sharing your artistry. Sites like AudioJungle and Epidemic Sound let you upload your tracks and earn royalties whenever someone uses them in ads, films, or YouTube videos. You get to be creative and earn money at the same time.

9. Build a Print-on-Demand Store

Ever imagined seeing your artwork or witty slogans on a hoodie or on a mug? A print-on-demand store could be something for you. With websites like Printful or TeeSpring, you can upload your designs, and they’ll handle the printing, shipping, and customer service.

You get paid every time someone buys your design, and you don’t need to order inventory or worry about fulfillment logistics.

10. Create an App

Perhaps you have an idea that could solve a problem or make life more fun. Channel your inner coder and create an app! Sure, developing a mobile app takes upfront effort, but once it’s live, it can generate passive income through ads, in-app purchases, or subscriptions.

Not a programmer? No worries, there are plenty of app developers for hire who can bring your idea to life. A successful app can keep earning long after you’ve moved on to your next big idea.

11. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing (my favorite!) is like being the middle person in a win-win-win situation. You promote a product you genuinely believe in, your audience gets something they need, and you earn a commission for connecting the dots.

Have a blog, website, or social media following? I do! These are your branded spaces. Add affiliate links to products or services that resonate with your audience, and each sale made through your link earns you more income.

It’s passive income at its finest because once those links are live, they keep working for you.
